The Technical Operations Unit (UTO) of EDF (Électricité de France), created in 1983, is an engineering center within the Nuclear Production Division of the EDF Group, the leading producer and supplier of electricity in France and Europe. The unit has grown from 400 to 900 employees in just over three years.

It is located at six sites across France. It is responsible for maintenance operations, technical expertise, project management, and supplier qualification and evaluation.

The Social and Economic Committee (CSE) of the EDF Technical Operations Unit wanted to facilitate the management of its team meetings through a cloud solution that complied with the group’s IT security requirements. In a context where digitization is no longer an option, the Secretary of the Technical Operations Unit’s SEC chose the Oodrive Meet solution to simplify meeting processes while securing shared content. He gives us the details of this choice.

The choice of the French cloud solution on the market

The year 2020 was marked by the Covid-19 health crisis. It was also the year of digitalization. For many, digitization was a crucial step in managing new meeting processes. With the widespread adoption of remote working, the amount of information shared between employees has multiplied. It is in this context that the UTO’s CSE has rethought the collaborative tools used by its members.

The CSE wanted to equip itself with a tool capable of addressing issues such as bugs and network overload. “Since we have been using Oodrive Meet, there have been no network outages or malfunctions,” adds the CSE Secretary.

Oodrive, recommended by the UTO’s Chief Information Security Officer, met the EDF Group’s security requirements, in particular thanks to its SecNumCloud certification, which guarantees the highest level of IT security. Many other EDF entities already had contracts with the French company for the security and storage of their data. The Secretary of the Works Council therefore chose Oodrive Meet in March 2020.

As the sole administrator of Oodrive Meet within the UTO, the Secretary of the CSE points out that there are many document shares (more than 1,100 files), as well as a wide variety of file types and levels of sensitivity.

“Every company operates using specific expertise and processes. Our works council is required to discuss a number of strategic issues with company managers and EDF decision-makers. All our data is therefore sensitive, classified as confidential or classified defense information,” explains the works council secretary.

Oodrive Meet provides real added value thanks to its access configuration features. The administrator can define who can view, modify, or share content based on their hierarchy or the security rules in place.

“The cloud-based format of the solution allows teams to use the tool from any device and anywhere, with peace of mind regarding the security of shared documents,” adds the CSE Secretary.

While the UTO teams quickly got to grips with Oodrive Meet—users are very positive about using the tool—the CSE Secretary explains that support was also a key factor in the success of the rollout. “I would like to praise the intelligent approach taken by Oodrive and its team, who were very attentive to our expectations and fully understood our challenges. Meeting with the sales manager in charge of the energy sector gave me a high level of confidence and availability and provided me with all the answers to my questions,” emphasizes the CSE Secretary.
